by Stu A poor turnout for the rescheduled accuracy meet @ Carolina SkySports didn't take the fun out of great competition. We all now know where the 1st cousin of the "Raeford Dragon" resides - Lewisburg, NC!!! Tough, tough conditions greeted 8 (that's correct, 8) jumpers on Sat. morning, 9 Jun 07! Hot (97 deg), very humid, inconsistent wind velocity, and thermals that were lifting small animals made for "challenging" conditions that issued each competitor at least one "off the pad" strike. After 8 grueling rounds, the Pacemakers (Bill Wenger, Keith Bergeron, Billy Beaudreau, & Stu Metcalfe) bested the U.S. Army Team (Elisa Feldt (my apologies to Elisa as I do not know her married name), Karen Morrison, Norma Estrella & Greg Windmiller). Individual accuracy honors went to Greg Windmiller (1st), Elisa Feldt (2nd), & Bill Wenger (3rd). I apologize for not having the exact scores in this post, but I'm sure they will follow from someone. Paul & Nancy Fayard were great hosts, meeting or exceeding our every request. Paul flew almost all the accuracy loads. We were all grateful to have a former style and accuracy competitor at the helm, as spacing between team stacks was never in question (if it is was close, Paul would issue his own go-around before the jumpmaster made the decision). His staff and the "local jumpers" were courteous and the "strangers in our midst" were treated well. For those who didn't make it, you missed a great "training meet" in some tough accuracy conditions! |
